are ubiquitous - just like Barq's root beer
(1979: saw an advertisement on the side of a city bus with a picture of an icy bottle of Barq's and a single word: Ubiquitious...to this day I can't hear that word without getting thirsty:-)
Purple stands for justice Green for faith
Gold for power
The Krewe of Rex has their parade today, following the Zulu parade, which was a favorite of mine. When I lived there, late 70s, early 80s, coconuts were tossed into the crowds from the Zulu parade floats....don't think they do that any more (too many injuries), but coconuts still are a Zulu parade tradition.
Bacchus parade was four nights ago. Every krewe has a king and queen and some of the "super krewes" like Endymion, Rex, Bacchus and Orpheus have TV and movie celebrities pose as their royals. This year
Andy Garcia and Kelly Ripa have that honor.
There is an official King (Rex) and Queen of Carnival and they preside over the lavish ball on the night of the Rex parade, which is today. Jack LaBorde and Carroll Irene Gelderman, both New Orleanians have those honors this year.
