Sooo, I've turned to books and movies with oceans, lakes, seas, rivers, creeks and streams as settings or integral part of the story. The list could be lengthy but mine is a tiny taste of what's out there. Please feel free to add your favorites.
- The Sea, by Irish author, John Banville - rather dark and reflective
- Wide Sargasso Sea,
- The Lake of Dreams, by
- Islands in the Stream,
- John D. MacDonald's mystery series. His
- The River
- Rivers West, by Louis L'Amour. Yeehaw!
- The Notebook
- Five Days in Summer
- The Lake House
- Eden Lake
- A Month By The Lake
- On Golden Pond
- A River Runs Through It
- Catch and Release
- The African Queen
If you're an ocean adventure movie fan then you have beaucoup films to choose from. They've never been a draw for me but there are others where the ocean takes on its own characterization in the story....
Ship of Fools
Master and Commander
The Hunt for Red October (has a terrific soundtrack!)
The Shipping News (read the book first then saw the movie, something I rarely do and I liked both)
Cast Away (Tom Hanks' acting was astounding in this film but it was his "costar" that tugged at my heartstrings.....Wilson bobbing out to sea, never to be seen again, so sad!)
An idea: (the MOTH BNTB is thinking "oh no, now what?")---- If I get too desperate I can erect an above ground pool in the back yard, pour in a couple wheelbarrow's full of sand and a few boxes of salt, add a wave machine and voila, I'll have my own ocean. It'd be the only one in Missouri!
