BUT...I confess to getting pretty excited about singing and dancing contests. Of those, I am a faithful fan.
Why? Must be my musician heart that draws me to listening to that lucky person who carries a natural instrument inside them, and watching graceful, agile bodies interpret music and lyrics. When toe-touches, squats, planks and sit-ups are the limit to bending a body, what those people do with theirs is super human, Gumby-esque!
A couple years later So You Think You Can Dance premiered and pushed IdoI out of my #1-show-to- watch-list. All those dance styles! Hip hop, rumba, ballroom, Broadway, tango, contemporary, lyrical jazz, waltz, Bollywood, krump...disco....!!!
"I've wanted this my whole life!" they say which means, what, maybe ten years, eleven?!
There's no end to the variety of occupations among the older contestants who seek a life of pop stardom:
Dog trainer...retail employee (lots of these!)...Air Force chorus member....worship leader (lots of these too)...cheerleader...media consultant...coffee shop owner...welder...shoe store employee...oil refinery manager...lifequard...
pediatric nurse...airline ramp agent...farm hand...
There's not another career I can think of that, if successful, guarantees you that kind of adoration!
