- City File Clerk, Dunn and Bradstreet, in my late teens:
PRO: Pulling and mailing credit reports was tedious but the job demanded that I be organized and efficient which I liked.
CON: My boss. Former policeman with a chip on his shoulder as big as the Tetons. Apparently hated his job, maybe a little more than the 20+ employees under his command. Not a nice guy.
- Employment Locator:
PRO: When I could successfully match a person to a job it felt really good. And something that felt even better was when they later contacted me to say Thank You, the job is working out great.
CON: Creepy boss, like smirking in the dark kind of creepy. Always seemed to pop up at places away from the office where I happened to be. These days his behavior would be labeled Stalking.
- Credit Report Collector for mortgage lending company:
PRO: Nice, friendly, fair people to work with
CON: Being in the pre-computer era, (earlyish '70s), 97.62% of my time was spent on the phone. Not a favorite activity of mine, then, or now.
PRO: I knew nothing about human hearts and lungs when I started and developed a fascination with anatomy that has always stayed with me. My "job description" expanded far beyond sitting behind a desk, typing, answering phones and interpreting dictated reports. Best OJT (on-the-job-training)experience of my life. Oh, and there was the added bonus of being employed in the hospital that had the city contract to conduct annual physicals for firefighters, which included treadmills. Physically fit, bare chested men in itty bitty shorts. Oh yeah, BIG bonus there.
Enough about jobs I've had in other lifetimes. What about ones I've never had and would never want? No offense or disrespect meant if you have had or currently work in these occupations:
~ Porta-Potty transporter ~ Interstate toll collector
~ Elevator shaft mechanic ~ Pedicurist
~ Bridge construction worker ~Rodent exterminator
~ Barnacle remover ~Oil Rig Worker
~ Taxidermist ~Candle Store salesperson
~ Athletic stadium post-game cleaner-upper
~Rooftop snow shoveler ~High-rise building window washer
