I began watching Idol in its third season, when I was a high school chorus and keyboard teacher. I tuned into the show every Tuesday night knowing most of my students were doing the same and were writing down their opinions about the singers to discuss in class the next day. I used it as a fun and entertaining method for my students to study singing styles and music genres. We tracked the show's progress on a chart at the front of the classroom. Each week we'd update, talk about our favorite singers and volley around our predictions about which contestants would be staying or leaving.
"Holiday Traditions" concert. An annual event in Gainesville, Florida, to benefit children's cancer research. All choral and orchestra members are students from local high schools. One of my choruses and I had the privilege of participating at this televised event. Quite an honor.
The first note, G, is "Do" (as in "Do, A Deer")
And if they told me otherwise, I assumed they were prevaricating.
When you have the time and quiet place to listen to this, below is an entertaining solfege exercise. There are three "verses" written out only in rhythms. Each new verse is added to the previous one so it ends up sounding like a round.
It's likely that some style of solfege was involved. Lucky for them!
